The Lincoln Assassination — Original Newspapers

April 16, 1865 Ford’s Theatre Ad

On April 16, 1865, the following advertisements appeared in the Daily Chronicle newspaper printed in Washington, D.C. The Chronicle Building was located on 9th Street between E and F streets, which is in the same block as Ford’s Theatre. The ad for Ford’s Theatre is extremely powerful in its subtlety. After the tragic events of April 14, proprietor John T. Ford would never again open his theatre to the public. The image below is © Ben Edwards.
