The Lantern Signal from Old North Church – April 18, 1775
Who displayed two lanterns from the steeple of the Old North Church on the evening of April 18, 1775 as a signal to the Sons of Liberty in Charlestown that the British troops were leaving Boston by boat for Cambridge? Was it the church sexton or caretaker Robert Newman, a member of the church vestry Captain John Pulling Jr., or both men? Why was the signal needed? Where was Paul Revere at the moment the lanterns were being shown? Ben’s story will address all these questions.
